Charles (Chas) Shinn W5PG SK
DFW Contest Group Member W5PG SK
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Charles
"Chas" Shinn W5PG. Few of you know that Chas was involved in the earliest of meetings to discuss the merits of forming what has now become the DFW Contest Group. Chas was an exceptional CW operator and a significant contributor to our group.
Charles David Shinn, of Coppell Texas passed away suddenly on July 18th, 2012. Chuck was born on August 1, 1945 in Camden New Jersey. He served 9 years in the US Navy and was a lifetime ham radio operator. Chuck was a resident of Coppell, TX for 22 years. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cynthia Shinn, his children - Mackenzie Carter, Whitney Wade, Lindsay Idar, Matthew Shinn; their spouses - Denny Carter, Ian Wade, and Jonathon Idar; and 7 wonderful grandchildren
Chas was first licensed in 1959 as WV6GUL. Since then he has held the calls K3YMA, WB7SHJ, WB6SFM, and W7MAP. His son Matthew is also licensed as KF5FRW and hopes to continue his fathers legacy one day perhaps eventually resurrecting the W5PG callsign.
