The DFW Contest Group announces the 2015 "W5" Contest Forum to be held on Saturday, June 13th in conjunction with Ham-Com at the Irving Convention Center in Irving, Texas.
The "W5" Contest Forum is highlighted by special guest speaker Dave Sumner, K1ZZ presenting on his recent CQWW WPX expedition to the Azores and also includes two additional hours of additional presentations on contesting.

The cost for the Luncheon is $25 and includes admission to the 1:00 presentation with special guest Dave Sumner, K1ZZ as well as a boxed lunch with deli sandwich, chips, fruit cup or cookie, water and iced tea. Admission price also provides a chance to win one of our several door prizes from Array Solutions, NCJ and Global QSL. Seating is limited to 60. Tickets must be purchased in advance using the information below. There is no charge for the remaining 3 hours of presentations and all are welcome to attend.
Contest Luncheon Special Guest, Dave Sumner, K1ZZ
David Sumner, K1ZZ, is Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national association for Amateur Radio. He is responsible to the ARRL Board of Directors for managing the affairs of the League including its headquarters staff and official journal, QST.
First licensed as KN1ZND in 1962 at age 13, Dave has been active in most phases of Amateur Radio operating with special emphasis on CW contesting. Active from the first as an ARRL volunteer, he joined the Headquarters staff in 1968 for the summer, became a part of the permanent staff in 1972, and was named Assistant General Manager four years later. He was named Secretary and General Manager in 1982, with a change in title to Executive Vice President in 1985 and the additional title of Chief Executive Officer in 2001. The title of Executive Vice President was phased out in 2011.
In the 1970s, Dave was deeply involved in worldwide Amateur Radio preparations for the 1979 World Administrative Radio Conference (WARC) of the International Telecommunication Union and attended the three-month conference in Geneva as a member of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) observer team. He also served on the IARU team at the World Radiocommunication Conferences (WRCs) in Istanbul in 2000 and in Geneva in 2003, 2007 and 2012. Dave was Secretary of the IARU and a member of its Administrative Council from 1982 to 1989 and from May 1999 to September 2009, and has traveled to more than 60 countries in connection with his ARRL and IARU responsibilities. In 1989 he was awarded the Calcutta Key by the Radio Society of Great Britain in recognition of his contributions to Amateur Radio internationally. Apart from his professional activities, Dave served on the judging committees of the World Radiosport Team Championships in Slovenia, 2000; Finland, 2002; Brazil, 2006; and Russia, 2010 and served as Chief Judge for WRTC 2014 in Massachusetts.
Dave holds a B.A. degree in Political Science from Michigan State University where he was active from the club station W8SH from 1967 to 1970. He also holds the Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Connecticut and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma business honorary society. He is trustee of the ARRL Headquarters club station, W1AW, and the IARU club station, NU1AW.
Dave resides with his wife Linda, KA1ZD, on a 15-acre "antenna farm" in rural Coventry, Connecticut, where they are active on the air. Their daughter Deryn, N1UCI, is an attorney in Washington, DC.
